Our Roots
George’s Brake Corporation was founded by George F. Pittenger. George had a very industrious and entrepreneurial way about him. He was a very innovative and strong-willed man; never shying away from hard work or giving up when disappointments or failures occurred. After 22 years, two Bronze Stars, one Silver Star and numerous other commendations received in the U.S. Air Force and Army, George retired as a Chief Warrant Officer III in 1975. Soon after this, he started Towner Dynamatic in Oklahoma and began working with the Eddy Current Brakes and Control Systems on oil rigs. He offered training courses for field technicians in diagnosing and repairing issues with the Brake Control Systems and Driller’s Controls. He began expanding his inventory to include replacement parts and sub-assemblies for the PWM Brake Control Systems and the Eddy Current Brakes. In 1983, George and his wife, Kay, moved the business to Bisbee, Arizona. Several years later, he changed the name of the business to George’s Brake Corporation. Always striving to keep the customer happy, he would travel to downed rigs to perform on-site repairs and maintenance. He continued to increase his product line by offering a Battery Back-up System, a Water Temperature and Flow Alarm System and a new air-cooled SCR Type System for the Eddy Current Brakes. For many years, the business was able to perform complete overhauls/repairs on the Eddy Current Brakes. In 2008, due to health issues, the business had to step away from the complete brake overhauls/repairs. Despite this change, he continued to focus on the satisfaction of the customer, striving to keep a well-stocked, vast inventory and answering technical support calls at any hour of the day or night. These established business practices are the very core of our daily operations.
